The Scarlet Letter

Widowed Hester Prynne, isolated in a new country, seeks comfort in the arms of a lover. When she gives birth to a child, her shame is made public and in the unforgiving moral atmosphere of colonial Massachusetts she is made to suffer for her desires. At once a highly readable tale and a penetrating portrayal of sin, guilt, and redemption.
